What this statement covers

This Privacy Statement describes how SheerGuard SA (Pty) Ltd. and our affiliated entities collect, use, process, and share your personally identifiable information. This Statement describes your choices regarding any applicable rights of access, deletion, and correction of your personal information. Where we refer to “information” in this Privacy Statement, it means any information that relates to an identified person.

This Privacy Statement applies to the SheerGuard SA portal (www.sheerguard.co.za) and any other website that links to this Statement (the “Site”). This Privacy Statement also applies to the information that we collect through the services we offer, communities, through marketing and customer engagement, branded digital and social media platforms. This privacy policy applies to all of our platforms, domains, application, software, offerings and portals (“platforms”) by continuing to use our platforms, you consent to the collection and processing of your personal information as set out in this Privacy Policy, in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).

Your personal information may be transferred to, and processed in, countries other than the country in which you are resident. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country (and, in some cases, may not be as protective).

In cases of cross-border data transfers, we ensure that such transfers comply with section 72 of POPIA by taking reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient country or entity upholds adequate data protection standards.

  • ‘Usage Data’ we may also collect information on how our Platforms are accessed and used (“Usage Data”). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address (IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Platforms that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.
  • ‘Tracking & Cookies Data’, by using our website, you consent to our use of cookies in accordance with this Privacy Policy. You may adjust your browser settings to refuse or delete cookies; however, this may affect your ability to use some features of our platform.

 

This Privacy Statement also does not apply to information collected by third parties, like third-party websites, social media platforms or accounts, third-party service providers, or other third-party services or applications that integrate with our Services. SheerGuard is a progressive security company specialising in the design, supply and installation of premium grade EXOLON® polycarbonate clear burglar bars and transparent security gates as well as other products for your home.

Purpose of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).

We collect and process the following personal information from our clients:

  • Physical address (for site visits, quotations, and installations)

Protecting Children’s Privacy

Even though our platform is not designed for use by anyone under the age of 18, we realize that a child under the age of 18 may attempt to access our platform. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under the age of 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child is using our platform, please contact us. Before we remove any information, we may ask for proof of identification to prevent malicious removal of account information. If we discover that a child is accessing our platform, we will delete his/her information within 30 days.

 

By using our platform, you acknowledge that we do not actively verify the age of users and, to the extent permitted by law, do not accept liability for any misrepresentation of age by a user.

Purpose for Collection

  • To provide quotations and conduct site assessments
  • To perform installations at the correct location
  • To communicate with clients regarding appointments, support, and updates, and after service courtesy calls
  • For product Warranty and Cleaning purposes where specified by the product selected
  • To send occasional marketing or promotional material (if consent has been given)
  • To respond to your questions, enquiries, and complaints

We may monitor or record any of your telephone conversations, emails, or chats with us for quality control purposes, for purposes of training our employees, and for our own protection.

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this policy, or as required by law, and thereafter it will be securely destroyed or de-identified in accordance with POPIA.

  • Object to the processing of your information
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa)

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. To do this, simply contact us at the numbers/addresses as provided and specify what information you require.  We will need a copy of your ID document to confirm your identity before providing details of your personal information.

We are legally obliged to provide adequate protection for the personal information we hold and to stop unauthorized access and use of personal information. We will, on an on-going basis, continue to review our security controls and related processes to ensure that your personal information remains secure.

Definitions as set forth in POPIA as follows:
